Channel 5 reporter shows off newest tool

John Carroll sat amazed last night as he watched Rhondella Richardson narrate a report on swine flu with a face mask on - because she was standing outside the house of somebody who apparently had it. Or as he puts it:

A surgical mask?

Really?

When Richardson was nowhere near the maybe-infected family?

Really really pathetic.

Not only is it a panic inducing fear tactic, it's unarguable false in protecting you.

Score one for the ignorant, idiotic masses. Maybe next time she can dance around a fire and sprinkle some witches wart on her cameraman?

They need to acknowledge this incredible blunder. It might put the brakes on the media hysteria if they would.

Add that to the many reasons not to watch any TV news, be it local or national. It's disgraceful. The 'drum beating' hysteria portrayed on the news is out of control. I'm skeptical of all the H1N1-swine flu hoopla. I plan on getting a flu shot. I'm not really convinced on the H1N1 though. People die every year from all different strains of the flu.
I think alot of this coverage is stoked by panicking folks and getting them to watch whatever channel can stir up enough fear of it's viewers.
If you doubt my view, wait until this winter, when all you'll see on the tube is stuff like: 'Stay tuned for complete Storm Center coverage' of the latest arrival of Armeggedon in the form of a snow storm.
