consider the source. Mr Bernstein has an intense and personal dislike for DA Conley (at least if you read his coverage). This may not be all that it seems. Just a thought.

Let's turn to the Globe story by Matt Viser, who presumably has no ax to grind in this battle, being relatively new to the metro desk and all:

He has Conley saying he's so upset at Davis not consulting with him he's thinking of, among other things, putting State Police in charge of homicide investigations in Boston. As for Davis:

Davis, who was appointed last year after serving as police chief of Lowell, said: "I've never heard anything so ridiculous in my life. I would certainly not suppose to interfere in the selection of his top command staff. This is surprising, to say the least."

Both of these guys are big boys and can, presumably work things out. As a resident of this city where 9-year-olds are getting shot at late-night parties (along with 15- and 16-year olds), I hope they do so soon.
