The name might be a clue. It's where Magazine Street meets the Charles.

Which is still called that (it even has one of those pale green DCR signs) despite the fact the beach closed decades ago.

You'd think it was because of pollution, but I read it was because of a polio outbreak. They closed the beaches to keep people from spreading the virus.

In August of 1955, Representative Joseph O'Loughlin called for the closing of the beach in West Roxbury at the Charles. In demanding that the MDC close Havey, he told reporters that the beach is "nothing more than a mud hole and could well be a breeding place for the polio virus."

which should be on any printed or online map. Most people who live in or near Cambridge are familiar with it.

There was a longstanding Saturday morning softball game there for years from the mid-80's until it was moved to Somerville in the early 2000's I think.

Who was the man? How did he end his life in such a way?

These accidental drownings and suicides must psychologically drain the first responders.

You don't know that he "ended his life". Please just stop.

I wrote 'accidental' or 'suicide'. I should have added 'natural causes'.

The answer to “how” is that he drowned.

Arguing semantics. By 'how' I meant and mean how did he end up at the river that fateful day? Little background info.Did he frequently spend time at Magazine Beach? Was it an accident, natural causes, was alcohol/drug use involved, suicide? What was his age?

I'd like to think most who read my original post understood what I meant by using the word 'why'. I didn't mean it in the literal sense that he drowned, had a heart attack, stroke, etc.

Agreed it could easily be a heart attack, you hear about swimmers pulled from Walden all the time.

4 bodies (counting one in the Muddy river) in 2 months all within a mile of each other. All drowned at night, all found in the morning. How many swim at night and die of heart attacks in Walden?

You know when this unidentified person went into the water? Perhaps you should talk to the police. They’d love to learn what you know, saw, and perhaps did.
