Moms to hold yard sale in Jamaica Plain

Members of JP Moms will hold their annual spring yard sale on Saturday at the First Church in Jamaica Plain - across from the Monument where South and Centre streets meet.

More than 50 families will be selling children’s clothing, books, equipment, and much more! In addition to seeing neighbors and friends, and finding some good bargains, this unique community sale provides families with affordable options suitable for ages newborn to pre-teen.

Starts at 9 a.m., runs through 1 p.m., rain or shine.

As I recall JP Moms has a lot of opinions about who's part of their community...

Kind of a difference between a yard sale and a debate over who can post to the group listserv (or whatever the kids use these days).

I was making a sarcastic comment given the nature of this group.

It made me laugh...because it's true. I'd like to see these JP Moms against the JP Mom's of the 70's. That is a cable worthy bout...lol

It's a joke that is more than fair game given the reputation that group has, between them blaming a woman whose baby carriage was hit by a cop in a crosswalk....and the questionnaire that was clearly designed to weed out nannys & other caretakers, fathers or nonbinary people, and anyone who wasn't middle/upperclass, white or "moved to the area" person of color. They made it really clear "JP Moms" did not include, say, any black women from public housing.

Everyone remember Sidewalk Suzie from Harvard Humanitarian Institute? She's pretty much a poster-child of that group.

Actually, there are tons of dads on JP Moms, as well as LGBTAQ parents and POC. Therre are no gender related questions on the membership form. How exactly does it weed these people out? Also, I jhave been a member for 7+ years and during that time, there was ever a post blaming a mom whose baby carriage was hit by a cop in a crosswalk. Make stuff up much?

I'm from Mattapan and I wandered through it last year on my way to the thrift shops on Centre Street. Does any one know why that busy business area isn't called Monument Square, Monument Circle, Centre Square or Centre Circle? But I never heard of "Sidewalk Suzie". Is that a JP thing?
I missed it this year because I only read Universal Hub Sunday nights through Thursday mornings at work. I'm going to have to change that!
