Residents of all but seven units in that DIY Allston tower should be able to return home by 5 p.m, ISD says

Boston ISD reports that 171 of the 178 units evacuated early this morning at the 10-story 15 North Beacon St. should be ready for the return of their residents by late afternoon.

The remaining units were more severely damaged by water that burst out of a hot-water main when a fifth-floor resident attempted to replace a faucet around midnight:

ISD, Emergency Management and the Mayor's Office are working with the property manager to help relocate the remaining tenants.

BFD had ordered the evacuation of the building over concerns about both the flooding itself and possible damage to electrical systems. The nearby Jackson-Mann School was opened as an emergency shelter.
