Two-alarm fire erupts in building under construction in Cambridge

The Cambridge Fire Department reports firefighters responded to 305 Webster Ave., near Cambridge Street, shortly before 8 p.m. for what turned into a two-alarm fire.

The department reports the fire was in the basement of a four-story building under construction there and that the fire was knocked down in about an hour, although firefighters remained on scene for another hour or so to ensure no hot spots flared up.

I was outside 321 Washington St. near Union Square around 8 pm, when I smelled smoke, followed quickly by the sound of sirens. Now I know why.

Does anyone know--are there special fire hazards associated with buildings under construction? I'm always a little surprised every time I see one of these; I guess I expect that without old wiring or people cooking, these fires should be unlikely.
