Two charged for Fourth of July shooting in Uphams Corner that sent man, girl to the hospital

Tips from the community helped lead police to two men who now face a variety of charges for a double shooting in Mary Hannon Park in Uphams Corner on July Fourth that seriously injured 35-year-old man and an 8-year-old girl, Police Commissioner William Gross said tonight.

Gross said Ian King, 28, of Dorchester, and Nathas Jacquecine, 31, were aiming at the man, but said the reason why was still under investigation. Both are scheduled for arraignment Monday in Dorchester Municipal Court on charges of assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

"Community policing was key in this investigation," he said, adding the volume and detail of tips from the community showed "people do care and they have had enough."

He said the girl's shooting in particular, "quite frankly, that pissed me off." He said he recently visited the girl and said she is recovering well and has a great spirit. "She should have her own show on Nickleodeon," he said.

He added, ""an 8 year-old child has the right to celebrate the Fourth of July, in a park."
