The last full-time headmaster was John McAfee. He too was under a cloud of suspicion after he hired several members of his family to work at the school
McAfee’s annual salary was $131,608
Seriously, that level of greed and stupidity is the best you can get for 131K? (Expletive), I'd do the job for half that. If I got 65, I wouldn't dream of looking that gift horse in the mouth so flagrantly as to hire three family members. Who the (expletive) is this guy, Keenan Ivory Wayans?
What a gross disservice to teenagers. Time for tech companies to start hiring 16-year olds as apprentices instead of cities and states running schools to teach them. If you can't get paying somebody six figures right in eight tries in a decade, you're obviously not competent enough to run the enterprise.
Would be funny if there were a reality show like Gordon’s or Bar Rescue/hotel or restaurant impossible. Like a “Lean on Me” type show where “experts” go in and actually do something. Might even do some good.
I was a student teacher there back towards the end of McAfee’s. I never knew about the corruption allegations, which sound shady as hell. I will say that he was otherwise a good school leader and by far the best headmaster they have had there since. Maybe a little honest graft is better than incompetent outsiders. That school will fail as long as it is open enrollment. Most kids there have zero interest in vocational training.
For me, maybe $2,400 a month, excluding when I book a leisure vacation or get my ass handed to me at the track. Without the exclusions, round that up to me needing 30 grand a year after taxes.
We don't talk enough about spending relative to how much we talk salaries.
YGTBSM, a nationwide search, there aren't multiple qualified candidates in the BPS??? Massachusetts??? Will the last person to leave turn off the lights.
I have to agree with Barbara Fields statement and sentiment. There should be a Truama Harm Reduction Assessment in regards to transferring a beloved administrators/staff
When the students, these traumatized children return back to school; they are definitely going to need to see some familiar administrative or
staff faces. Particularly Pillars, socially and emotionally connected staff.
There should be some venue or opportunity for this transition to be less drastic. Who knows maybe video conferencing, video calls, whatever; just start getting the students involved in this process so that they can heal along with the process.
Do a zoom calls, asking students to participate in some of the future decision-making process regarding hiring and firing.
Shame on all of us adults for overlooking the students abilities to make decisions on their own lives.

Six figures
ain't what it used to be.
Depends on how much you spend

I knew him to be an incredibly dedicated educator. BPS got a deal as $130k a year for probably 80 hours a week.
90 percent of Boston Public Schools
Are a disgrace and embarrassing (for the amount of money we spend.)
All we get are excuses but never any solutions.
No easy answers
There's some truth to what you say, but I'd love to hear your solution.
Sure there are
Wear a (expletive) rubber. There's a CVS on every corner. Coolidge Corner has two.
I don't have the solutions to lots of problems
But I'll still express my opinion on those as well.
We pay plenty of money to people who are supposedly experts.
Should we just pipe down if we don't have the solution to embarrassingly terrible schools?
