Citizen complaint of the day: Have you ever listened to bad karaoke for six hours straight?

A citizen near to losing his mind files a 311 complaint about unceasing karaoke blasting on King Street in Dorchester:

Very loud, today they have been doing it for 6 hours. Have you ever listened to bad karaoke for 6 hours straight? I'm down the street and it sounds like it's in my living room. Please make it stop before I go insane.

And the city made karaoke illegal until phase. Hmmm...

That would take a while for results. A heavier-handed bartender would be much faster.

About 3 weeks ago I also heard a loud karaoke party in a back yard near me in Dorchester. The amplified sound, the singing, and the yelling got louder and louder as the night progressed. At around 10:30 I had enough and called 911 (311 won't solve anything). I don't know if the cops came, but at around 10:45 the noise stopped. And not surprisingly, the residents of this house have had several loud parties over the years. The funny thing is that the next day I checked 311 as I do from time to time and someone else complained about the same party. The 311 complaint is still out there, unanswered, 3 weeks later. The King street complaint is also unanswered as I write this.

Based on previous Uhub comments over the years, someone is going to suggest that I should have asked them to stop. Nonsense. One person vs a backyard full of people drinking is a recipe for escalation. So my advice to the King Street person and anyone else is call the cops. Boston has a noise ordinance , and the police will enforce it when requested.

I walked by this house with my dog and heard the music. There were pastel balloons and a few people there. I could see a third floor balcony with a couple on it, peering down at the party. According to my google timeline, it was 3:25pm. The music wasn't that bad and it ended by sunset. It would have seem louder to that couple on the balcony, I'm sure. But I am also sure that they could have approached these people and asked them to lower the sound a little. My neighbors aren't perfect, but they are reasonable and polite.

I guess I am offended that because its dorchester, you think it is too dangerous to talk to your neighbor. I try to have a high tolerance for parties that don't go too late. It is a city and you could not have any parties if people couldn't put up with some music.

Well, I am not too far from this. I did hear it but it was obviously some kind of family party during the day. It was noticeable but not ridiculous. So this backyard is small and the two streets are triple deckers. It creates a canyon that amplifies the sound and vibration.
