Company that won approval for medical-only pot dispensary on Newbury Street now wants to sell recreational pot in store it has yet to open

The Boston Sun reports the latest on the saga of the Newbury Street dispensary that never opened, but still wants to, only now with an expanded market.

Yes, this is the same place the Zoning Board of Appeal approved in 2017 after a local millionaire gave an impassioned, satirical speech against the place that many didn't realize was satire, because he actually supported it, then was acquired by a national pot company, then won a zoning-board extension to open after it didn't.

While the city and the state dick around with licences, etc, I continue to buy from my local unlicensed entrepreneur. His prices are half the state prices, and he's much closer that the nearest store to me, which I guess is in Brookline.

“ As part of its mitigation efforts in the community, Ross said Compassionate Organics would hire security to patrol the Commonwealth Avenue Mall in an effort to curb public consumption of marijuana in the area. “We’re prepared to put money towards community effort that deal with these type of issues,” he added.”

Not betting this would be in any way effective or even followed through with.

So far, three years after being approved by voters, Boston has a total of ZERO "recreational" dispensaries that are open, and only a handful of medical dispensaries.

Why are people convinced that separate parking facilities in the middle of the city are necessary, and people loiter in the area and consume their purchases from dispensaries?

You know what happens in reality? People take the T, make their purchase and go home. The horror!

Doing it in public surrounded by assholes shoving past you on the sidewalk and then getting on the T and dealing with THAT is just a waste of weed, your high will be ruined in five minutes.

It stinks of marijuana smoke everywhere. Cigarette and cigar smoke too. Especially in the parks. It will only get worse if a new smoke shop opens.
People aren’t going home to smoke because the people they live with don’t want that in their homes.

I work downtown and bike all the way through the city to Brighton every day.

You know where I smell pot the most? Coming out of cars blasting down Boylston St towards Kenmore. I'd be HAPPY if I smelled it coming off of pedestrians and parks instead. Biking around people hotboxing themselves while they speed through city streets always feels super treacherous.

There's a corner of the Common that's pretty heavy on pot smell, but that's not even all the time.

Now will a store FINALLY opening IN Boston change any of that? Who knows...let's actually open a fucking pot store in the city and find out!

And despite what the locals may tell themselves, Newbury Street sure as hell ain't Rodeo Drive.

The trend of corporations losing money in exchange for high visibility retail space made sense before everything could be shipped to your door. But online retail in addition to landlords getting greedy and pricing out privately held and franchise stores has killed whatever character the street once had.

Ross is trying to hold on to some fantasy land, hoity-toity idea of a bustling high end marketplace that got sick in the late 90s and finally died on 9/11.

Who demanded an airline carrier bend their rules to accommodate his entitlement by letting his dog hang his head out of a pet carrier? Yeah, he's all about enforcement.
