Developer proposes 471 apartments, condos on what are now parking lots along Bremen and Orleans streets in East Boston

The Davis Companies this week let the BPDA know it will soon file plans for roughly 451 apartments and 20 condos on land the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center now uses for parking along Orleans and Bremen streets on either side of Gove Street.

In a letter of intent, the developer, based downtown, said the apartment buildings will be seven stories tall, while the condos will be in town homes 3 or 4 stories tall. It did not specify how many total buildings it will propose for the roughly 3 acres of land.

The project will include 172 parking spaces, Davis says, adding that the health center has found space elsewhere in the neighborhood for its parking needs.

Ground-floor retail space in two buildings that will be aimed at "independent entrepreneurs," Davis says.

Davis says the project will also include reworking the intersection of Gove and Bremen streets to make it safer for pedestrians and will re-do and add to the public plaza where the East Boston Greenway bisects Gove Street.

The next step is for Davis to file a detailed plan for the development.
