MBTA fixes rotting, dangerous stairs at Downtown Crossing - after a reporter tweets about them
By adamg on Wed, 02/05/2020 - 9:30am
Michael Jonas reports on what happened after he tweeted at the T about some dangerous stairs from the Red Line at Downtown Crossing: Not only did the T dispatch a crew to fix them sooner than it had planned to, other riders responded with reports of rotting stairways at other stations.

Why does the MBTA have a safety department?
Shouldn't they take a stroll throughout the subway system to see where the hazards exist? They spend less time in the subway than the Transit Police and both departments ride around in fancy SUV'S above ground.
That would be dangerous and
That would be dangerous and workers comp payouts are expensive.
How about the rotting dangerous stairs at Savin Hill?
Can some reporter please report the situation to the T?
If all it takes to fix the T is media shamming
Then why isn't every news outlet documenting every dangerous situation 24/7? State reps tweet about these conditions all the time. Nothing gets done. A local lawmaker can break off pieces of a rusting stair at the MBTA South Attleboro station and ring every alarm from Boston to Providence. Stephanie Not-An-Engineer Pollack deems South Attleboro safe and promises change in 2021. Every media outlet moves on. If the media has the power to generate quick change, then let's see if Boston & Providence media can change the South Attleboro rehab from 2021 to this month.
The T can be shamed into positive action?
Well, that's refreshing to see. More!!
Getting the steps fixed
Hooray! I trudged up and down those crumbling stairs disgusted at their condition. I wrote a complaint in 2018, after witnessing an elderly woman tripping up them never to receive a response. Thank you Michael Jonas for getting this major safety hazard addressed.
Now can you get the City of Boston to repaint the Freedom Trail striping and repave the walks. It's a disgrace to see the poor condition of that important tourist attraction.
One down. 1,452 to Go
Nothing to celebrate
