The local National Weather Service sums up a storm that could mean downed trees and possibly even the odd tornado:
Believe that this won't be an over the top storm, but it's going to be a pain in the backside for a lot of the region -- especially since it's been quite awhile since we've had a tropical system like this one.
And that's why French Toast Alert is at 2 slices.

I've got the feeling

I've got the feeling Worcester is going to be the worst hit. It's like there's a curse on that city when it comes to weather events in Massachusetts.
Vermont

Vermont has been New England's tropical storm punching bag of late and this storm looks to be the same. It sucks for them too because the headlines are typically about how it wasn't so bad for Massachusetts.
Vermont still hasn't recovered from Irene.
not a blockbuster, but...

I can't remember the last time a tropical system resulted in tropical storm or hurricane warnings that, over its life, covered the entire Atlantic coast. Tropical storm warnings go right up to the Canadian border in Maine now.

But consider Hurricane Sandy
By Vicki

There were no tropical storm warnings here for Sandy. There were no tropical storm warnings issued for New York or New Jersey for Sandy.
I don't know if there were other major storms for which the National Hurricane Center was that far off in its predictions (only one hurricane model out of five or so got the storm track right).
For Sandy, the storm track wasn't far off

with its left hook into New Jersey.
The problem with Sandy was terminology. Sandy was transitioning from a tropical system to an extratropical system. For Joe Public, there is no distinction, and a Hurricane Warning should have been issued (it was the equivalent of a Category One) to convey the strength of the storm.
The storm was expected, as both states had declared States of Emergency prior to the storm's arrival, but the terminology may have caused some to underestimate its strength.

I remember a couple. Getting ahead of myself, what happened to ice storms in Boston? I haven't been able to iceskate on a major street in a long while.

Western MA has seen at least three tornado warnings this morning. I've lost count of all the others up and down the coast, but I've seen them pop up from NC to VT all in the last hour.
Some decent rain would be nice here though

While I'd rather just use the sprinkler than wish destruction on my fellow humans of western New England, we could really use a soaking rain down here in SW Boston.
yup

Unfortunately in eastern MA we're looking at brief downpours from thunderstorms rather than a good soaking.

We need rain too. Even the weeds are dying.
Right?

My window boxes are ok but my 'wildflower border garden' (i.e. weed patch beyond the lawn) is just wilted. Which is honestly a shame because the bees of mid-October love those late blooming weeds.

issued TODAY by the National Weather Service. And I seriously doubt they'd be re-running old weather alerts.
