Captain's Blog ran across (but not over) this Amazon box in a shoveled space in Allston, thoughtfully marked so you wouldn't think it's just some trash out early.

Why don’t they treat snow
Why don’t they treat snow plowing like street sweeping??

Because that would take like effort to plan it out.
It could work. Other cities do. Just prioritize streets and work around the clock. Montreal does it as does Calgary.

Cambridge does it on certain streets when the piles get really bad.
But they don't manage it well. First they put up these little signs that say "no parking until further notice", which nobody notices. For days or weeks people keep parking there. Then with no warning the city tows everyone. Then they spend all night going back and forth with a beeping front-end loader, shuttling the snow to a dump truck at the end of the block.
There are plenty of Youtube videos of Montreal's process. Clear signage posted in advance, then they make one pass with a snow blower truck paired with a dump truck.
Doesn't Somerville do this?
I mean, come on, have we really forgotten about this gem?
(Turn sound all the way up, thank me later.)
