Man was packing a gun loaded with 12 rounds Wednesday when arrested for a shooting on Monday, police say

Boston Police report arresting a man they say opened fire on Fenwood Road, just a block from Brigham and Women's Hospital, on Monday.

Police say gang-unit officers, along with Suffolk County Sheriff's deputies and state troopers spotted and arrested Josean Ortiz, 32, of Roxbury, around 11:45 a.m. yesterday at Huntington Avenue and Mission Street, a couple blocks away from where they charge he shot a man shortly before 2 p.m on Monday.

Police say that when nabbed, Ortiz was wearing a fanny pack around his chest that contained a 9-mm Glock handgun loaded with 12 rounds as well as "hree small plastic bags of crack cocaine packaged for sale."

Ortiz was charged with assault and battery with a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and carrying a loaded firearm for the shooting, police say. Police added additional gun charges, including possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and a charge of possession of a Class B drug with intent to distribute after the arrest, police say.

Police say statements from witnesses - but not from the "uncooperative" victim - led them to Ortiz and that data from a court-ordered GPS unit he was wearing at the time placed him at the scene of the shooting. Police did not say what led a judge to order Ortiz to wear the device.

Innocent, etc.
