Norwood woman ordered to stop harassing gay neighbor

A Norfolk Superior Court judge yesterday ordered Deborah May to stop spreading false rumors that a neighbor in their Norwood apartment complex is a pedophile, stop screaming anti-gay epithets at him and stop filing false complaints with the local police department about him, the state Attorney General's office reports.

The state successfully sought a civil-rights injunction against May for her activities, which allegedly started in November of 2007. The injunction orders May to cease all communications with the man and his family and to stay at least 500 feet away from his workplace.

Reminds me of when an old friend of mine was living in JP with her lesbian partner. A crazy neighbor woman *really* hated lesbians, and made sure they knew it. The hater even went so far as to stick a knife in their front door.

Unclear why someone who hated lesbians would choose to live in JP. :)

Because Northampton is too far away from work! :)

Isn't filing false information to the police an arrestable offense?

I know you can be arrested for repeatedly calling them when there's no emergency.

I'm guessing they would've charged the woman, had the victim wanted them to.

I'd further guess that he just wants it to end. And that maybe he thinks the woman needs help, rather than penalties.

No. That's an idea that I refuse to buy into. Here's why: Whatever problems the woman may have, it doesn't give her the right to harass the guy and deprive him of the right to live a normal life (free of harassment, etc.), and in peace, like most everybody else. Sure, the woman may well need some help, but that doesn't mean that she shouldn't be made to pay a penalty of some sort for her behaviour.
