Dylan Hackley couldn't help but notice this Handmaid's Tale-themed Halloween house/Get out the vote effort on Union Park in the South End today.

Best Halloween Decor in the South End
The woman who decorates this house year after year is so clever. She once told me she does it for the kids, but the level of sophistication in her witty messages makes it fun for adults, too!
The Handmaid's Tale
Is an amazing show. But also not exactly kid-appropriate content considering the sexual violence depicted, not to mention violence in general.
What exactly is kid appropriate again?
Which is a weird segue you just brought up.
Is it the woman carrying a fetus without a skull who had to travel from Louisiana to New York for an abortion?
Is it the fact that Idaho has now criminalized professors (not just teachers) from talking about condoms as a form of birth control (and not just a way to prevent venereal disease)?
Are kids going to recognize this as being from that show?
If anything, this seems less potentially scary to kids than a Halloween display featuring characters from, say, IT or Friday the 13th, neither of which would be kid-appropriate content.
Red Nuns
If kids don't know about the show I'm pretty sure they would think they are red nuns. Regular nuns are scary enough but red ones... brrrr.
Nooses?
This is an obvious scare tactic directed at our AA community. Someone call Rachel's hotline!
I assume that the Halloween extravaganza on Grew Avenue...
... in Roslindale is gone for good (house sold to new owners, I thought). And the newer one around the corner on Poplar also may be gone (possibly also new owners). Are there any over-the-top Halloween decorations left in Roslindale?
Albano St.
There is a house on Albano, between Kittredge and Cliftondale that decorates extensively for various holidays. Passed by it yesterday, and it looks like they've done their usual spooky job.
House at corner of kittredge and metropolitan
House at corner of kittredge and metropolitan always has an exceptional display. The folks there also put together amazing costumes and have treats for the adults as well as the kids.
