He'll never be at a loss for a T map

MBTA tattoo

Jack William Tat shows off his new tattoo, which should look familiar to anybody who's ever ridden the T.

It's based on the 2001 subway map, the version I most associate with my childhood riding the T. It's not perfectly accurate, but I chose to lean more towards aesthetics than accuracy. I've been wanting a minimalist map tattoo for years, and I just decided to go for it.

He's not the only one to show some permanent T love:

He has a leg up on Fields Corner.

William originally posted his photo in the Boston Area Public Transit Photos, Videos and Discussion Facebook group.

It is intentionally a 2001 map. Cuz the first thing I said was "Gee, No GLX" but his desire was to have a 2001 map so it makes total sense.

Geez.. that was 6 years ago. I wish it was still that color. It now is a blue black.

Virtually no regrets.. except I wish it was on my right arm so I could get a RFID implant to use as a T pass. (yeah I'm weird like that cuz why the F not?)

I get a lot of comments. Lots of bus drivers stop and ask which garage I work out of.

I was dragged.. dragged at a silver line luncheon over to former Secretary of Transportation Stephanie Pollock by someone to show her that tattoo. We just gave each other the "yeah Im not so sure why I'm here" look. I am sure she thought I was strange.

I worked for the T as a contractor.. that was fun. They used to tell the call center staff that the T would this to you after you had been with them for a while.

And of course a lot of "WHY?!?" and I have to explain how it relates to my other arm and other tattoos I have (and want to get).

But still no regrets really.

Scars can be useful, Dumbledore said. I have one on my knee that is an exact map of the London Underground.

As far back as 2001 Charley was reaching out to us and telling us he still roams the tunnels 'neath the streets of Boston.
