I was in North Billerica Station once when someone did that as the northbound train was leaving. He made it out of the train, but had to be taken the rest of the way on a stretcher. A broken leg, I think.

Don't be surprised if it turns out there was nobody from commuter rail to open those doors or help that family off the train. It happens more often than you know.
They make an announcement to get off only where there is a conductor and don't tell you where that is.
I jumped off a train at Readville in December as it was starting to move. Not my best decision probably. The conductor actually laughed at me.

and it's always going to be that way. Just like the motorists who drive around railroad crossing gates, and then want to blame someone else when an accident occurs.

It's simply amazing that with the technology we have that you cannot get onboard and offboard a vehicle while it is still moving.
A simple contest among high school students could solve that problem. And guess what it would be ADA compliant. You remember those 10 MBTA guys with scissors video on channel 5or4or7 that were cutting the ribbon for the new Blue Line have even a clue.
But tell them that it would be ADA Compliant and they would be eating out of your hands,

Because given the choice between a 5-10 minute stop in the schedule OR the cost of implementing, testing, maintaining, insuring, and accepting an ADA complaint system for disembarking from a moving train...
We should definitely waste our time, money, and intelligence solving the latter.
Seriously, guy, stick to community minivan brigades.

The physics, electronics and mechanical engineering are not that difficult. I'm not trying to win a popularity contest. You would be surprised to find that there are reasonable thinking people out there.
