MA National Guard Officer pursues, confronts tour bus
An off-duty and out of uniform MA National Guard Lt. Colonel spotted a bus with Florida on its side, assumed it was full of migrants sent by De Santis, and aggressively followed it for 10 miles.
When the bus reached its destination hotel in Falmouth, the Guard officer confronted its driver. The driver told him that the bus was carrying American senior citizens, but he didn't accept that, and entered the bus. The passengers berated him, so he apologized and got off. The police were called.
A tour bus bringing senior citizens to their East Falmouth hotel on Sept. 19 was aggressively pursued by a National Guard officer from Joint Base Cape Cod who thought the bus was carrying migrants because of a Tallahassee, Florida, sign on the side of the bus.
...
In the Facebook Live video, Hoffman seems agitated about the current immigrant situation and expresses frustration about trying to bring someone from Afghanistan to the United States.
It's getting crazy out there.

You didn't even pull out the best quotes from the story!
He was praising DeSantis, who sent migrants here, but the story clearly indicates he was upset by the thought that a bus load of migrants had been sent here...
Ah yes, the right of all Americans to conduct warrantless searches and seizures of charter buses on public ways.
Another good quote from the article:
"The Falmouth Police Department report about the incident, written by Det. Christopher Bartolomei, said Hoffman may have been impaired and perhaps was suffering from some sort of mental health situation."
PSA: Fox News and its ilk may be damaging to your grip on reality and mental health. Don't grow up to be a deranged, bigoted asshole, kids -- stay far away from right-wing media.
Mental health situation
Nutjob
Hmmm…
Is being willfully ignorant and hateful a mental health situation?
Seeking dominion over others
Without cause most certainly is.
This guy could have just made it a Blockbuster night. He elected not to.
username checks out...
N.C.
Mental health situation?
Euphemism for using a drug that impaired his thinking? The statement, "When he looked at me, he looked through me not at me," suggests the man was under the influence. The fact that he was taken away by an ambulance to a hospital raises very serious questions about the man's capacity to even drive.
Add that his driving sounds like it was endangering the safety of the bus driver and passengers.
This could have come close to causing physical harm to any senior with a heart condition.
I didn't know the
I didn't know the Massachusetts National Guard had social warfare officers.
Full of Migrants
Climate migrants, perhaps.
These tiny brain fascists who think that having a uniform (even if it is at home) gives them police powers need to be systematically removed from any and all uniforms.
This isn't just an affront to civilian authority - it is a breakdown in the military command structure that needs to be addressed. Anybody who has ever been in the real military knows what "chain of command" means.
Once again
A terrific argument in favor of UBI, folks.
It's a far better investment of public money to hand this guy a check to leave everyone else the (expletive) alone instead of handing him a salary and working hours to be anyone with anything resembling state authority. I'm not afraid enough of a bus full of seniors to pay this jerk money to protect me from them.
Vote against progressives in Democratic primaries again.
Won't work
Hand this guy a check, and he'll be pissed off that other people are getting checks too.
Well
Then it's his problem, because we'll have given him money to meet his needs of shelter and food at that point, so his joylessness would be for him to resolve, not us.
I mean, I used to call for expanded capital punishment in this comment section until like 10 years ago. I'm trying to be nice, but our society needs an answer for this guy, because next time, it won't be old people, and next time, he might be carrying a weapon, and next time, the person he confronts might respond a little more forcefully than by saying "none of your business."
lol
lol. You really are willfully blind to what's going on in this country, and in these people's minds, and what actions arise from that, aren't you?
I can't tell if you're naive or disingenuous that you think people like this will just, y'know, go off on their own and resolve their joylessness instead of using whatever authority they think they have to harass buses that they think might have brown people in them.
I mean
What the (expletive) did I say?
Much like my mom, you're adept at arguing with people who agree with you.
Cool
Can we court-martial this jerkoff? How does that work?
Maybe...
the FBI will take care of him if they can prove his involvement in Jan 6. I think there's a pretty damning good chance of that.
Sweet fucking Christ
Seriously.
But like...
...what was he gonna do if it WAS full of migrants? "Citizens' arrest" them all?
He probably thought so
He probably thought so. It's how Ramboids think.
Ramboids?
Is that a new word for Trumptard? Oh, wait, it's Rambo + Steroids...still describes many of the Trumptards lol.
Sigh
Can we express our frustration with right-wingers without using disability slurs please?
Lt. Col. Christopher Hoffman is a soft, pathetic loser
Hoffman saw a bus full of Black, out-of-state retirees and found an excuse to do some white supremacy and then, when caught, begged the police to take down his Facebook livestream and was carted off in an ambulance.
Yet there are dishonest MAGAs like Pompeo and Cotton crying that the “woke military is making our armed forces soft,” when nah, it’s the MAGAs, the Christopher Hoffmans, the Ashlii Babbitts, the Oath Keepers, and the J6ers who are making (parts of) the military weak and pathetic.
Lt. Col. Christopher Hoffman is a racist clown.
Ah, Ashli Babbitt
Thank you for reminding me that it's been some time since I've sat on my computer, and synced up her dropping like a sack of flour with the Benny Hill theme and the losing horns from The Price is Right.
LOL
Good one.
and...
Despite what some people think, being a racist clown is NOT a mental illness. It's a scumbag.
re: Babbitt
I remember running across something about Ashli Babbitt that she had voted for Obama twice. According to friends or family she ended up down an internet rabbit hole that led to her doing a complete 180 by Jan 6.
Let's be fair
Have you seen a tour bus lately? All the ones I've encountered have heavily-tinted windows, such that you can't see if anyone is on board, let alone who it is. Hoffman saw Florida, and went off on that. His assumption was racist, but not because he saw Black people.
To say that everyone who acts
To say that everyone who acts out is a "mental health case" is wrong. I have depression and anxiety and I am not likely to stop a bus full of tourists and yell at them.
Stigma
...is the REAL problem. I wholeheartedly agree with Jen here.
Agreed
While things like lack of perspective-taking and trouble with impulse control are certainly aspects of poor mental health, and there are therapies that can help change thinking in these regards, calling harmful behavior "poor mental health" increases stigma and harms the majority of folks with psychiatric disabilities who aren't hurting anyone.
More importantly, anyone who does harm to others needs to repair and be accountable, regardless of neurotype or mental health. Let's just focus on impact, and call this out as behavior that harms other.
Yeah, what ever happened
to just calling racist assholes "racist assholes" without assuming "mental illness"?
"mental health case"
"mental health case" is media code for drunk and disorderly White man. Had he been Black he would have been called "paranoid and deranged".
I hate this double standard.
To be fair, the police report I quoted above
also cites possible impairment, not just mental health issues. Based on the reported facts, it's not hard to credit both at once.
Candidate for idiot of the month right here
This officer is a good candidate for idiot of the month right here.
"Off Duty" Guardsman
I'm pretty sure that even if he were "on-duty" the National Guard's job isn't chasing down buses full of people, whatever their provenance.
