The sign at one stop told a tale, which riders summed up as: Fail

Orange Line sign says next train to Oak Grove is in more than 20 minutes

Is this the new normal? Summer Camp looks up and sighs.

The T says, not to worry, that's just some weird technological artifact.

But another rider said the sign is right, that he really waited 20 minutes for a train this morning.

One rider said she was spotting trains every 13 minutes as promised now that the feds are making the T give dispatchers enough time off to get some sleep, but:

Been stuck at Sullivan for half an hour hoping for a train that isn’t too full. Orange Line trains are only running every 13 minutes, resulting in hot, overcrowded trains of mostly maskless riders. By the time another train comes, the station platform is packed again.

Another Orange Line rider has a suggestion:

With all the extra time the MBTA is making us spend at Forest Hills now they should at least let someone open up a bar in here.

As much as I hate the frequency of the commuter rail, we have a serious problem when the commuter rail frequency exceeds the orange line in the southwest corridor

Can confirm, it was every bit of this and more. It's one thing if they need to use 15' headways...quite another if they *say* they are using 15' headways but, in fact, two or three trains pass by in the course of 5' followed by 30-40' of no trains as you wait for that bunch to come back around again. Completely unacceptable.

Whatever the gap between trains has to be given the staff and equipment at hand MAKE IT THAT. The T own the whole widget in the subway and the trains should be dispatched within the minute they are supposed to depart. Obviously, unpredictable delays happen, but this isn't that. This is just total lack of any management.

I saw the 20+ at Forrest Hills this morning.

Yeah but the worst is when you leave work exhausted and enter the station only to see no arrival times indicated AT ALL on the signs! Only the digital time. That's when you know you're doomed. Bring a cold bottle of water and your headphones.

TransitMatters, the advocacy group, has a great tool where you can see the frequency and travel times for any subway line, with a running history so you can pick any day you're interested in. Looking at the Orange Line northbound from JP today, it looks like the time between trains was more than 20 minutes not just once, but four times this morning. Ugh. (There were a bunch of 15-18 minutes gaps, too.)

yesterday (6/28) at about 7:15 a.m., I went down into the station at Central and saw two lines on the "next train" boards: 3 minutes, and 20+ minutes. I for one was glad I only had to wait 3 minutes. I can't imagine waiting 17+ minutes for a train during rush hour.
