Two dozen grave markers fall over in Cambridge cemetery due to natural erosion, not vandalism, police say
Ed. note: Obviously, this story was completely rewritten after an update from CPD.
An initial report of two dozen headstones apparently knocked over in the North Cambridge Catholic Cemetery is actually due to "natural erosion of the stone, which causes them to fall over," Cambridge Police say.
Police had initially begun investigating what they thought was vandalism after somebody visiting a family member's grave at the cemetery on Rindge Avenue yesterday noticed several gravestones apparently knocked over. But after talking to cemetery staff, detectives now say that the cemetery was aware of the fallen over markers and is "confident it was not the result of any malicious destruction," a police spokesman says.
