Two prisoners charged with bashing Whitey Bulger's head in; third also charged with his murder

Two convicted Mob enforcers and a third prisoner at a federal penitentiary in West Virginia were indicted yesterday for the murder of Whitey Bulger just 12 hours after he was transferred there from a Florida facility.

Fotios "Freddy" Geas, 55, convicted for murdering a Springfield Mob boss and an associate, Paul "Pauly" DeCologero, 48 and a former Mob hitman from Tewksbury and Sean McKinnon, 36, with no known Mob ties, were formally charged with conspiracy to commit first degree murder for Bulger's death. The US Attorney's office for Northern West Virginia says Geas and DeCologero both repeatedly smashed Bulger in the head. Past accounts have said they used a padlock wrapped in a sock.

In Boston, US Attorney Rachael Rollins released a statement saying, yeah, it's a shame Bulger's family has had to go through "the excruciating pain and trauma" the families of his victims went through, but let's not forget the 19 people Bulger personally murdered or ordered killed:

  • Arthur Barrett
  • John Callahan
  • Richard Castucci
  • Edward Connors
  • Debra Davis
  • Michael Donahue
  • Edward Halloran
  • Deborah Hussey
  • Thomas King
  • Francis Leonard
  • Paul McGonagle
  • John McIntyre
  • Michael Milano
  • Alfred Notorangeli
  • William O’Brien
  • James O’Toole
  • Albert Plummer
  • James Sousa
  • Roger Wheeler

Today our hearts are with the 19 known murder victims and their loved ones, as well as anyone ever harmed by this man. He was a serial murderer, and each mention of his name is a trigger to the families he devastated, reopening wounds that we can only hope had finally started to heal.

Innocent, etc.
