You were the future of my childhood storms, always wanted to see what God forsaken place you were reporting from as the waves crashed around you.

Not a storm goes by that doesn't make me think, even just for a moment or two, of Shelby Scott. Rest in peace, dear lady.

Aah... a life of talking about the weather and becomming a professional at it.
Well done, Shelby.

But let's all hope the sum of our existence after we're departed isn't simply our occupation...

Yeah but remember,. she was kind of a pioneer in a way. No one did what she did before she did! I can't say that is a bad thing. She made her mark.

I've been on a Little House on the Prairie kick late, and been reading Melissa Gilbert's autobiography. I gathered for years she was like "poo poo Little House, i'm trying to be a serious actress". But she could never shake that image of her as bucktooth, braided hair, and a bonnet, Laura Ingalls.

And while I get trying to 'rebrand', especially for a child star.. but out of all the things in the world to be known for, I can't really think of a better character to be associated with than Laura Ingalls. (She realizes this now.)

Same for Shelby, she could have just been yet another reporter in the sea of them.. in an industry that was dominated by men at the time. Or she could be known as our snow storm weather girl.

Sometimes the mark you make on the world isn't your choice...

It's like they said, let's do what Shelby did, but on steroids.

This is why Jim Cantore annoys me so much whenever he shows up on the south shore. He's just doing what Shelby Scott did.

Also, I recall hearing once (I think in an interview with her?) that the news director at WBZ was sexist and didn't like Shelby so he started giving her assignments to go stand out in various storms hoping she'd quit. But she made it her own thing and kept taking the assignments just to piss him off and she ended up outlasting him at WBZ by a longshot.

Beat the rush, I say!
But Godspeed to Shelby.
She was a great one.
