That sometimes-on, sometimes-off, never-quite-right Boston accent of Mel's is going to get a lot of local ridicule. Why do they bother? Who would care if everyone in the cast spoke in a flat Midwestern American accent? It's really hard to do a working-class Boston accent right, and almost no actor who wasn't raised here ever does a good job of it.

That's the thing that people don't seem to get; the Boston accent is usually a blue collar working class thing.

People like Laurence Fishburn in Mystic River and Vera Farmiga in The Departed wouldn't talk like construction workers from Charlestown.

Why are actors/speech coaches/directors/whoever unable to get it right, and why don't they have an impaahhtial observer tell them when it would just be better to do without any attempt at it?
What is the major malfunction?!

that it's not just Mel. Numerous people in that trailer sound bizarre.

(Didn't see MC Slim's comment before I posted, but obviously others will agree!)

This flick must be a real stinker if they are releasing it in January/early February, which is typically the graveyard for new movies.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy....

One, this looks horrible.

Two, sounds even worse. Since when is the Boston accent a mutilated version of Jersey talk?

Why am I not surprised that he drove to Roslindale and not to Brookline?

You may recall how he had to change the way some scene was filmed a bit because a Jewish resident of the street refused to let him use her house for night lighting.

and i won't be seeing your movie. you're not welcome her mel

Yeah Mel, we only welcome the leftist liberals here. When is Michael Moore coming??

Thankfully Mel's got his own production company so he's not as deeply effected (black-listed) by the loons of Hollywood. Keep 'em coming Mel

I didn't know only "leftist liberals" do not like anti-Semites. But I'll take your word for it.

Would appreciate an introduction to a rightist liberal, or a leftist conservative, though.

Ray Winstone is in this. He's really good. You probably remember him from The Departed. Mel? He's ok. He knows how to turn on the action, blood and passion.
