Former Harvard professor dies at 100

Henry Kissinger, who earned BA, MA and PhD degrees at Harvard then stayed on as professor of government and international affairs before leaving for a job in the Nixon administration, where he helped overthrow a democratically elected government in one country and oversaw B-52 carpet bombing in another, died today.

…. scars she received in the refugee camp she grew up in in Thailand after her parents fled from Cambodia in the genocide. Her parents bore worse unspeakable scars, inside and out.

But she still lives and is loved as is her father and siblings and children.

Good riddance.

Now, now... Tenure is forever, Adam. You can't say 'former Harvard professor that helped overthrow a democratically elected government in one country'.

Oh, wait - that's the blood on his hands.

You can always tell a Harvard man, you just can't tell him not to oversee the overthrow and assassination of a democratically elected leader in one country and the B-52 carpet bombing of another country.

and that was the headline I was expecting.

His dedication to serving his country is remarkable, his means and methods in doing so are plainly reproachable. And he certainly had no remorse.

...he was a fanatic.

Concur.

I've been reading a little history recently - touches upon the crimes the USA was part of in Chile. It gave a fresh edge to revile Kissinger...

...and now he's gone.

I wonder where the final horcrux was hidden.

That Spotify Wrapped lists hit today...I think Dylan's 'Masters of War' and some Kool and the Gang could have made a late push to the top

Which Kool and the Gang, specifically?

(I was thinking the Brass Against the Machine cover of "War Pigs", myself)

"Celebration" was the one I had in mind

Lehrer said that "Political satire became obsolete when Henry Kissinger was awarded the Nobel peace prize."

it is a pity that this day should be sullied with the mention of this bungler, Metternich wannabe, and war criminal, because another, better, more significant person died today, Shane MacGowan. Let him be remembered.

From his book, “A Cook’s Tour: Global Adventures in Extreme Cuisines,”:

Once you’ve been to Cambodia, you’ll never stop wanting to beat Henry Kissinger to death with your bare hands. You will never again be able to open a newspaper and read about that treacherous, prevaricating, murderous scumbag sitting down for a nice chat with Charlie Rose or attending some black-tie affair for a new glossy magazine without choking

Witness what Henry did in Cambodia — the fruits of his genius for statesmanship — and you will never understand why he’s not sitting in the dock at The Hague next to [Slobodan] Milosevic. While Henry continues to nibble nori rolls and remaki at A-list parties, Cambodia, the neutral nation he secretly and illegally bombed, invaded, undermined and then threw to the dogs, is still trying to raise itself up on its one remaining leg.
