Six-condo building approved on East Eagle Street in East Boston
The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved plans to replace a single-family home with a six-condo, townhouse building at 272 East Eagle St. in East Boston.
Developer Fraser Allan's proposal calls for six parking spaces. Five of the units would have three bedrooms.
The project needed zoning approval because it was about 3 1/2 feet taller and denser than allowed by the street's zoning, had more units than allowed but not enough parking. The zoning would also require nine parking spaces.
Allan's attorney, Jeff Drago, said the current house was something of an anomaly on the block because most were already multi-family and that some were taller than the proposed building.
The BPDA said the building was too big and should be reduced in height. Nobody else, however, spoke in opposition.
The board unanimously approved the proposal, but with a condition that Allan work with the BPDA to better design the proposed parking spaces.
