Brookline water-main break may affect water pressure and color in Boston's southern neighborhoods

The Boston Water and Sewer Commission reports a water-main break in Brookline on Wednesday is continuing to affect water pressure and color in some areas "in the southern parts of Boston."

The MWRA, which supplies drinking water to the Boston area, had to re-route its water flow after a private contractor managed to drill right into a major main in Brookline, which in turn has meant possible "water discoloration or water main breaks in the weakest parts of our system," Boston's commission say.

It is possible that this work may result in discolored water. While the water is safe to drink, if this occurs, residents and businesses should run their faucets until the water returns to normal clarity (it can take up to approximately 10 minutes) before drinking or using for dishes, laundry, or other needs.
