Conley Terminal shut as part of East Coast dockworker strike

WBZ reports on the impact on both businesses that get and ship their goods by sea and on the local workforce:
There are only 160 dockworkers in Boston, but the strike is expected to affect about 12,000 jobs in the area, including tugboat and truck drivers and delivery workers.

It might. A certain right-wing national ticket might decide to play up reports (real or not) of long lines at gas stations and shortages of bulk goods at BJ's and like places - to energize their base of low-information voters.
I wouldn't have thought so, but I already saw an anticipatory-dread FB post from someone in my red-leaning hometown, worriedly asking about lines at the Costco because she's got some family emergency going on today already and doesn't want to have to take time to panic-hoard quantities of goods with all the other panic-hoarders.
I think the Biden response will be measured and incremental. More offers to mediate, more coaxing back to the negotiating table, etc.... He wouldn't press any more strenuous remedies until after the election.
The impact might push some votes TO Harris-Walz. Trump is essentially anti-union. He would happily go union-busting mode if he won and gets into office, and the unions have to know they'd be in a weaker bargaining position if Trump wins.
Personally, thinking of some of the hypothetical delivery-chain issues, I remarked to my wife this morning that we might need to think about if there was anything in the realm of 'shipping-time' items that we were going to order for anyone for Christmas and get it in the pipeline now rather than waiting a few weeks.

Can we open up the freight corridor road to bikes and pedestrians during the shutdown so that there's a safer route to the water from points northwest?
