Jesuit priest charged with raping student at BC High when he taught theology there

A Jesuit priest now living in the order's retirement home in Weston faces arraignment June 27 on a charge that he raped a student at Boston College High School in Dorchester when he was a theology teacher there, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office announced.
Kevin White, 62, was formally charged with one count of rape for the alleged attack between 2008 and 2009, the DA's office said.
White left the school, where he once took several students on a pilgrimage to Ontario and moved out of state in 2010.
After leaving BC High, White moved overseas, working for the Jesuit Refugee Service, which focuses on the needs of refugee children. He started in South Sudan and Uganda before moving to Geneva, where he served as a liaison with the United Nations and other international organizations there.
White returned to Massachusetts in 2021, the DA's office said.
White entered the Jesuits in 1992 and was ordained a priest in 1999 - by Archbishop Lawrence Burke of Jamaica at St. Ignatius in Chestnut Hill. In addition to his time overseas with the refugee service, he also spent a year in Sri Lanka and India, including a month working in a leprosy hospital.
White is still listed as an active priest on the Boston Pilot's priest directory.
The DA's office said it will release more information after White is arraigned.

When I first saw this headline...
...I feared that this article might be about someone that I crossed paths with several years ago. He too was a Jesuit priest, and a former -- emphasis on "former" -- teacher at BC High. But all generalizations aside: credible accusations against him had been published in the Boston Globe.
Being in the same room with him was one of the few times in my life when I sensed that I was in the presence of evil -- and that was before I learned of those allegations. It was just incredibly creepy being around him, even without knowing, or suspecting, that he was a predator.
