Four-alarm fire damages houses on Edson Street and Milton Avenue in Dorchester; one cat dead

Boston firefighters responded to 27 Edson St. for a fire that quickly went to four alarms and spread to a neighboring building, shortly before 6:30 p.m.

The Boston Fire Department reports 19 residents in total were displaced. One cat died, one firefighter suffered minor injuries.

The heat from the fire melted the siding on the rear of two houses on Milton Avenue.

The department estimated damage at $2.5 million.
