Massport names guy who says he doesn't want the job as one of two finalists for CEO

Massport is announcing that Rich Davey, the local boy who made good as state transportation secretary, then made meh as head of the failed Olympics effort but who later found true transportation love running the subways and buses in the city so nice they named it twice, is one of two finalists for the job of Massport CEO.

The other finalist is Eulois Cleckley, director and CEO of the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works.

Earlier this week, the "New York" Daily News (which, like the two "New York" football teams, is now based in New Jersey) reported Davey had no interest in returning to Boston, so should we be preparing a warm Boston welcome for Mr. Cleckley?

Assuming Cleckley is offered the job and takes it, he would oversee Logan, Hanscom and Worcester airports and shipping operations in Boston Harbor, including both freight operations such as the Conley Terminal and passengers operations at the Black Falcon Terminal.

Even if Cleckley gets in, the racist real powers who run MassDot will just want to make his life miserable.

The CEO of Massports is paid $480k.

Meanwile the mayor gets paid $207k and the the governor gets paid $185k.

What a crock.

None of that is taxpayer money - Massport generates a profit on operations.

Massport is a cash cow.

And alas, per federal laws, all that cash has to stay at Massport.

To be fair, it's basically a private business under the aegis of the state. In Europe, the airport and seaport would all be run by private concerns.

Being able to buy some of the original dual-mode buses (with luggage racks) and later to provide MBTA funding in lieu of fare collection at the Logan stops has been one way to have some of that money used for Massport-related but not Massport-operated services.

(Aside: I'm sad that there are now only four remaining trolleybus systems in the US, and the MBTA is not one of them. Dayton still has theirs!)
