Non-profit wins approval to replace shuttered Fenway laundromat with affordable apartments

Queensberry Street proposal

Rendering by Embarc of the new building between two existing buildings..

The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved plans by the Fenway Community Development Corp. to replace a long closed laundromat at 112 Queensberry St. with an apartment building with 24 affordable units.

The proposal calls for the units - split between studios and one-bedroom apartments - to be rented to people making no more than 60% of Boston area median income. Some of the units would be rented to people making no more than 30% of that level - and three units would be specifically set aside for people who are coming off homelessness.

The building would have no parking - the city no longer requires it for affordable-housing projects - but would have space to store 18 bicycles for residents and 6 for visitors.

The building will also have all electric appliances and solar panels on the roof.

The Boston Planning Department approved the proposal in July.

112-114 Queensberry filings.

Good. I always hated that "laundromat".
