North End restaurateur to spend summer locked up after allegedly cutting off the GPS device he was supposed to wear while awaiting trial for a failed Hanover Street murder attempt

A Suffolk Superior Court judge today ordered Patrick Mendoza, the now former owner of Monica's Trattoria on Prince Street, held without bail until at least Sept. 11 - with no date yet set for his trial on charges he shot at somebody outside Modern Pastry on Hanover Street last July, according to court records.

Judge Christopher Belezos ordered the renewed jail time about six weeks after he released Mendoza from an extended pre-trial stay in the Suffolk County jail that started after his initial arrest last year after he was ruled a potential threat to society.

On May 1, Belezos released Mendoza to home confinement, but with permission to go to work or to meet with his lawyers or see a doctor - on condition he wear an ankle bracelet. Mendoza was arrested at his North End home over the weekend after he alleged grew tired of wearing the device and cut it off.

Mendoza is formally charged with armed assault to murder, attempted assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, stemming from what police say was his attempt to shoot somebody with whom he had long had a beef - he missed the guy, but plugged Modern Pastry without hitting anybody inside.

This guy is (or at least was) one of the repeated plaintiffs against the Mayor in the great North End sidewalk turf battle of '23. Very calm and collected gentleman, to be sure.

And he wants to be our latex salesman and his brother wants to be our Mayor.

I wonder if jail will be less annoying?

Amazing to see this level of entitlement on display. He really thought there would be no consequences.
