... until you learn that the population of Galway is around 80,000, roughly the same as Somerville. Not exactly Dublin, Belfast, or Derry we're talking about here.

My great grandmother's name was Olivia (b. 1894) and her husband was Emmett (b.1885).

Liam is also a traditional name, popular when my sons were growing up.

If you want to see some wild crazy "original" behbheey naymeez - like your theoritical strawyuppies might use - try one of the FB or other social media groups like "This Name is a Tragedeigh".

There are actually people who name kids after guns, tractors, branches of the military, cars, consumer products, random remixes of phonemes, and think cree8tive misspelling stuff or adding fifteen x's makes it original. Bob Geldof's brood seems normal by comparison.

...I doubt that the name of my beloved maternal grandmother (and the name of her oldest niece) -- Gertrude -- will ever become fashionable again (at least in the USA).

Give it a rest for once. I used to have a resort job working with the offspring of these very-much-not-straw yuppies. I'll wager I've got ten times the up-close experience with yuppie offspring names that you do.

So in 18 years we'll have tons of girls named "Livy" or "Liv" and tons of boys who use their middle name as their first because they got tired of people misspelling/pronouncing Liam as Leeham.
