Dead victims of high-speed rollover in stolen car on Morrissey Boulevard were just 14 and 15, State Police say

State Police report four teens were in a stolen Hyundai Accent speeding up Morrissey Boulevard early Thursday morning when the car rolled over near the UMass entrance.

State Police report one of the teens who died in the crash around 3:15 a.m. was a 14-year-old from Dorchester and the other was a 15-year-old from Mattapan. The third teen, 17 and from Roslindale, remains in critical condition at a local hospital, State Police say, adding the other teen suffered injuries not considered life threatening.

State Police add that the car had been stolen in Jamaica Plain Thursday morning. Also:

A firearm was located in the crashed vehicle and was secured by the State Police Ballistics Unit. The vehicle was towed to a State Police facility for further investigation.

State Police said the crash remains under investigation, including which of the car's four occupants was behind the wheel.

with at least one gun in the car. condolences to the families, but how can anyone talk about this as if it is anything other than madness?

What? Where does it say there was one adult?

The report mentions four juveniles. Report was probably updated.

The victims are all males. Three are believed to be teenage juveniles. Investigators are still confirming identities of the victims.

So read the police report. The 4 victims are all described as teenagers or juveniles. No adult mentioned.

did I not?

The question is where did it say that 1 was not a juvenile, it was in the 3rd sentence. If the facts and circumstances reported changed in the updated version posted below, that doesn't change the location in the report that says that 3 of the 4 were believed to be juveniles.

If someone disagreed with Adam's reading and summarization of the report, it might be more productive to have pointed out that in the update posted on that report, it indicates that all 4 are now believed to be juveniles.

No need to throw a hissy fit.

The crash was bad enough that they don't know who was driving and are still identifying the injured/dead people.

Give it a rest.

I agree that it doesn't matter, but I think a 19 y.o. is both an "adult" and a "teenager".
I hope my comment doesn't upset anyone on UHub.

I screwed up. The first SP post said an adult and three teens, but now they say all four were juveniles. I've updated my post.

There's a lot of cyber anger on display

So it was a stolen car, it had run a red light, and it was going at a high rate of speed. I think a crash was to be expected and I am glad no other cars were hit.
This could very easily have been avoided.

Visiting the upper Midwest last summer, I learned that in some cities, stealing cars for a joy ride (particularly Kia and Hyundai due to poor antitheft features) is a favorite pastime.

In Milwaukee in particular, everyone seems to know someone who had their car stolen recently. That city experienced over 10,000 car theft in 2021, 8000 in 2022 and some 6000 last year. That's 20 to 30 car stolen every day in a city of 560k people -less people than Boston. These kids were probably working on their "Kia Boy" credentials.
