The telegraph line to New York must've been down again

The Times published a nice obituary for Brother Blue the other day - three weeks after his death. And, of course, this being the Times, they couldn't rely on other media accounts of his death: "The death was confirmed by his wife, Ruth."

The Booby Blog

BY CHRISTINA PARKER, FORCV Blogger

I bet you thought all the breast talk was over now that October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is long gone.  But sometimes I need a little distance in order to reflect…

On October 2, 2009 at 4:05 pm, Boston.com posted the following on Facebook: “October is breast cancer awareness month. So, like every year, pink is everywhere. What do you think of the pink product craze? Supporting a good cause, or profiting from others' misfortune?”  It referenced an article which I did not read at the time.  But the question stayed with me.

Being the brother of a murder suspect has its advantages

Prosecutors charge Sterling Fusi's brother, Max, helped him get rid of his gun after fatally shooting a man earlier this year.

But Max Fusi, 19, is only being charged with possession of an illegal weapon, rather than the more serious crime of being an accessory after the fact because of that blood tie, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, which cites state law:

The fact that the defendant is the husband or wife, or by consanguinity, affinity, or adoption, the
parent or grandparent, child or grandchild, brother or sister of the offender, shall be a defence to a prosecution under this section.

Sterling Fusi, 23, was ordered held without bail today at his arraignment on charges he murdered Travis Davis on June 5.

The DA's office charges Davis went to the Centre Terrace apartment where the Fusi brothers lived and got into an argument law-enforcement officials are still investigating. Prosecutors allege the older Fusi tried to settle matters by drawing a silver .45-caliber handgun and shooting Fusi. Fusi, prosecutors say, managed to bolt from the apartment, but Fusi continued to shoot him on the stairs, killing him.

Max Fusi, who talked to a Globe reporter after the murder about seeing Davis's body in a pool of blood, helped his brother by taking the handgun and throwing it into a vacant lot across the street. The younger brother was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bail at his arraignment on Monday.

Innocent, etc.

Confusion at Downtown Crossing

Stephen Laniel kvetches about the poor state of signs in Boston; recounts his experience transferring from the Orange Line to the Red Line at Downtown Crossing this morning:

... The one stairwell that will take you down to the Alewife-bound track was closed. T officials were standing there looking bewildered. There weren’t any signs. They directed me to the tunnel that connects Park to Downtown Crossing; if I hadn’t known that the red line was there, their pointing would have confused me. It still confused me, because I’m not accustomed to walking to another station to catch the train. ...

Maybe the wrong day to be thinking about pizza, what with all the leftovers, but Santarpio's could be expanding

Jim reports the fabled East Boston pizza place is looking to set up a second location, in an abandoned Bennigan's on Rte. 1 in Peabody.
