One of the last nails in the coffin of the Combat Zone?

Construction has finally begun on a luxury tower at Washington and LaGrange streets. Once it's completed, how long do you think Centerfolds and the Glass Slipper - the Combat Zone's last two strip clubs - can hold out before their buildings are torn down for a high rise?

Something about the proximity of those clubs to a major hotel area for out-of-town business people and conventioneers says that they will remain, and remain profitable.

The HH Richardson building
is called the Hayden Building, and its upper floors are being turned into apartments. It is owned by Historic Boston Inc. and is a protected landmark.
The buildings should survive
The parking lot next to and behind the Glass Slipper is slated for a tower. You can't place another tower directly next to it. Also, the buildings are in good shape, so there won't be an eminent domain taking for blight, as happened with some of he other strip club locations (most famously the Naked I).
Didn't the city arrange for Glass Slipper to move ...
... across the street to their current location, when Kensington tore down their old building along with the Gaiety Theatre next door?

I'm not sure whether the city played a role, but you're right that the Glass Slipper was originally in one of the buildings demolished for the Kensington. That building was in terrible condition, and justifiably condemned.
Almost went into the Glass Slipper once.
When I first moved to the area, I thought it said "glass shop". HEY! I was reading the banner from far away and it was windy. Almost walked all the way down the street and had a look inside. Decided to go to work instead and look it up on the Internet...that sure did make things interesting for the IT guys...
Went to the Carib once
Similar to the Slipper. It was on Tremont, I think where the Subway is now.
Long bar and the ladies really just danced right behind it. In very close proximity. One gal had her back to us and bent over an looked at my brother and I as we drank beers at the bar.
She said, "You've seen it, now give me a buck."
My brother replied, "Here's two, don't show it to me again."
Good times.

It had been abandoned and empty for many years before it was fixed up for the Glass Slipper to move into.

I thought government officials can declare a building or area blighted without regard to its actual condition, just so they have an excuse to tear it down.

To their credit, neither club gets hauled before the licensing board very often, certainly not like a certain venu in the Theater District that you can often hear a rumor or two about.
Licensing board reminds strip club it's a strip club, not a lap-dance club, 6/8/10.

you know, in other citys and
you know, in other citys and states, strip clubs arent the pits of hell Mass makes them out to be. Most citys in the US have them, and a good number of 'upscale' places business men take clients to for lunch. Its just around here we are made to feel they are bad and dirty.

In the 70s, strip clubs and the Combat Zone were taken as a matter of course. Nobody made much of a big deal about it. Then-mayor Kevin White even held a ribbon cutting ceremony making the Combat Zone "Boston's Official Red Light District". Those were more open minded times. It was the coming of the 80s and the Reagan era that swung things in the other direction from which they've never quite returned.

Why does every freakin' condo in this city, no matter how horrific the area, have to be a LUXURY condo?!
I'm sure they'll be very luxurious - filled with partying students and/or Eurotrash.
