DA: Officer injured in fight with gun-toting drug dealer in Dorchester

A Dorchester man fresh out of prison for shooting at a Boston cop in 2006 faces arraignment this morning on charges he fought and injured a Boston Police sergeant during an overnight arrest off Talbot Avenue, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
Calvin Horne, 26, was in the process of being arrested around 1:50 a.m. at Colonial Avenue and Millett Street when he turned violent and grabbed at one officer's gun, the DA's office reports - adding his own 9mm gun had a round in a chamber.
Stanley Staco heard what happened next on the police scanner:

According to the DA's office, the sergeant suffered injuries to his head and ear.
Once taken into custody, police found two dozen bags filled with suspected crack cocaine on Horne, the DA's office says, adding the contents of the bags are now being tested at a State Police lab.
Horne will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on a variety of drug, gun and aggravated assault and battery charges, the DA's office says.
In 2006, police officers who heard gunfire near Langdon Street in Roxbury spotted Horne fleeing the scene. When they began to chase, he paused and fired a shot at one of the officers - who fired back. Neither was injured. Horne was convicted in 2009 and sentenced to 3-4 years in prison, the DA's office reports.

so how about the legal system actually DO something about him this time, considering the first attempt has obviously failed, before he kills someone.

Calvin obviously falls into that small category of criminal who cannot exist outside of the can. Now the more liberal amongst us might say that all Calvin needs is intense rehabilitation and a focus on education while he's incarcerated...again.
Me, I say stick him in some hole and let him rot. For while some people actually respond to education and outreach in prison, our Calvin has proven that after trying to kill two cops now, no one is safe from this parasite.
3-4 years for resisting
3-4 years for resisting arrest and attempted murder? I think this calls for a bunch of trigger-happy NYC cops, though we gotta make sure we pick the ones who are able to hit the perp without shooting up a bunch of bystanders.

Prosecutors asked for $250,000 bail. Dorchester District Court Judge Franco Gobourne imposed $70,000 bail, but revoked his bail on an earlier drug charge, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
Horne pleaded innocent to unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm as a second or subsequent offense, possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute, possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute as a third offense, aggravated assault and battery, assault and battery on a public employee, resisting arrest, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and civil motor vehicle infractions. He was additionally charged as a Level III armed career criminal based on multiple prior convictions for assault and drug distribution.
The gun he allegedly had with him was a 9mm High Point Model C-9 loaded with eight rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber, the DA's office says, adding the officer he allegedly beat is recovering with cuts, bruises and stitches.

This is one of those times where the old 'resisting arrest' excuse would have been liberally applied back in the day as the arresting officers gave a punk like this his deserved beat-down. Hopefully it can be done today in such cases because the situation cries for it. I doubt it can be done nowadays though, with all the strict system guidelines and moniterings of police.
