While I did manage to capture a good portion of the drama that unfolded the other day, there was still a lot more going on around me that wasn't in the video. You are correct, there was a huge amount of rubber-necking, as would there be in any major accident in a crowded place, and I can understand that my comment regarding those who tried to help may not have been demonstrated very well by the footage. In those (roughly) nine or ten seconds after the accident I had been preparing my cell phone to film, I can recall a good amount of shop employees from the surrounding businesses rushing out of their places of work with fire extinguishers in hand. Most everyone around me were on their phones, audibly calling 911.

I remember watching a video shot by a security camera a few weeks ago. In the video, an elderly man is struck not once, but twice by two vehicles as he attempted to cross the street. Both cars sped away quickly, and the witnesses simply gawked, hands over mouths. Apathy is very common these days in such occurrences, and I don't know if it's from desensitization, shock, or simply plain old carelessness. What I do know, however, is that my experience with the horrific accident on Harvard street was almost entirely different, whether I managed to catch it on film or not.

I apologize for the long post, I just felt that I had to clear this up. I do hope that you, the anonymous poster who wrote this, is able to read this.

P.S. - I also apologize for the quality of the video. While my cell phone's resolution isn't the best, I had the added encumbrance of a tray of coffee in one hand, phone in the other, and some random woman strangely clinging to my waist. Also, the surprise of what had just happened, coupled with a ton of caffeine I had ingested prior, made holding the phone still an incredibly difficult chore. Thank you for reading.
