That didn't last long: Editor-in-chief of boston.com quits
By adamg on Tue, 11/25/2014 - 4:01pm
Garrett Quinn gets the scoop on Matt Gross's resignation, not even two months after he moved up here from New York to take the job running the not-the-Globe site.

Globe Direct may be hiring
The weekly poop bag encased recycle candidate has started showing up on my steps again.
BDC
That website used to be my go-to spot for breaking news. Now it's become a poorly edited People Magazine with occasional AP headlines.
bostonglobe.com
That's the site you want now.
Even if they're using interns
Even if they're using interns, spelling and grammar are not prerequisites for journalism school? It boggles my mind the errors and poor reporting I see on that site.
Yes if you want a poorly
Yes if you want a poorly edited People Magazine with occasional AP headlines, check out Bostonglobe.com.
Isn't bostonglobe.com
Isn't bostonglobe.com subscription? I subscribe to the paper so I have access, but am not sure about non subscribers.
bostonglobe paywall
There's a paywall at bostonglobe.com. But you get 10 free/month/browser. I have three on my desktop that I use regularly at work for different purposes. 30 articles a month from that site is about 10 more than I need or want.
You could just clear your cookies
Without having to install multiple browsers.
Alternatively, you could actually pay
If you think that the reporting and editorial staffing of the Globe produces higher quality journalism than, say, buzzfeed or boston dot com, and if that content is of any value to you, you could consider paying for it.
Speaking of which, you could also consider supporting UHub, too.....
On the other hand...
You're paying for a paper that constantly runs out Dan Shaugnessey on above the fold pieces where he pisses on the fans of local teams and denigrates their success. If that entices you to look farther into the sports section, you can check out the pointlessly verbose sports takez of Chris Gasper, the press-release regurgitations of Manza-Young and the stunningly ill-informed Ben Voilin. Just a terrible, terrible sports section.
But what's the cost/value ratio?
A digital subscription runs $16/month. Or something along those lines. That's like subscribing to The Economist but without the quality or an actual paper. All so I can read 11 or more articles a month? It just didn't make sense for me. If it were $5/month I'd think about it. Almost $200/year isn't worth it.
Google Chrome
Use Google Chrome's incognito mode and close and re open that window for each new article you want to read. Defeats the pay wall every time..
You make it sound like the pay wall is a bad thing.....
also related: you can avoid paying for movie tickets by sending one kid in with a ticket, he can then go to the emergency exit and let the rest of you in.....
5 article/mo limit.

BDC = Boston Dot Crap
I end up looking at the globe instead.. or here. More so here. Better news here.
Funny Adam, I was going to tweet you the news. Maybe the new guy can hire interns that can spell or not sound like they are on reddit. OR better yet, actually write like real news and not buzz feed style crappola.
BDC = Boston Dot Crap
Made me giggle.
Interns or not
I thought spelling and grammar were a big reason for having editors in the first place ...
That's why this is the...
...hub of the universe. Adam can use the dreaded apostrophe correctly. I think.
Adam needs to stop using the
Adam needs to stop using the dreaded and painful to read Oxford Comma.
Dreaded?
No. Sometimes it is very necessary - such as in the example, below:
When you write simple sentences, it isn't as useful; however, complicated listings need the definition of the Oxford comma to supply precision (such as those that often occur in scientific and technical writing).

Them's fighting words
Don't be dissing the Oxford Comma. It actually makes things less painful to read for me.

boston.com has really been increasingly dreadful lately.

Any chance of making a package deal with Brian McGrory? BostonGlobe is still pretty deep in the cranky irishman from the burbs position so I think trading for someone who could write would be nice.

was he really the editor-in-chief if nothing was ever edited?
This is not news
The news is that boston.com had an editor-in-chief.
