Man's triumph quickly turns sour as he is arrested for knocking over a T-station vending machine

Stony Brook Malicious destruction

A man already wanted for various crimes was charged with another early Saturday: Knocking over a vending machine at the Stony Brook stop on the Orange Line, Transit Police report.

A surveillance video shows Dayquan Hardy, 22, apparently being quite happy with his work - possibly because he knows he's cheated death by vending-machine crushing.

Unfortunately for the happy machine tipper, a T worker watched the whole thing and called in the cop, who found him near the station.

Hardy violently resisted the officers attempt to place him into custody but was eventually subdued. Hardy was transported to Transit Police HQ for the arrest booking process. It is expected Hardy will be arraigned sometime today in West Roxbury District Court for Malicious Destruction of Property Over 250.00. During the booking process it was discovered there were two warrants in existence for Hardy's arrest issued from Dorchester District Court for Assault & Battery on Elder/Disabled person and Brighton District Court for Assault & Battery on a Public Employee.

Innocent, etc.

The suspect does seem all giddy, waving his hands and nearly losing his bonnet with excitement.

I do note that he is wearing some kind of Barbie-branded top in the mug shot.

Why are people sticking up for this guy? He wantonly knocks over a vending machine, and, yes, his mannerisms of delight at doing so were somewhat on the silly side. And, just to make things clear, I am a gay man myself.

People piling on MarKKK for being an asshole is not the same as defending this guy and/or his actions. MarKKK has a history of being the resident troll here, along with one or two others.

Please stop, because you're not.

If you're dead serious, please stop, because that's kind of an asshole thing to say.

I don't go around pushing over vending machines for no reason, resisting arrest, or even worse, assault and battery of elderly or disabled people like the asshole in this video. Its well known that the MBTA has video cameras exactly for this type of public shaming. Be it this guy or Malden man in jorts having his zipper examined. Fair is fair without double standards.

I agree that the alleged perp is an alleged asshole, based on this video.

But right wing ideologues that react to news story with hate, fear, and hypocrisy are assholes too.

Hate? what? Crime? Free passes for "protected" classes?
Fear what? Truth?
Hypocrisy?

Calling or suggesting that the guy is gay or linking him to the Pride parade in a critical way is the objectionable part.

Anyway, he's dark skinned and I thought that anyone not white in reflective materiel was invisible to you.

up
Voting closed 0

Thankfully its past memorial day for that and his hat and purse somewhat match. People were critical of BJ guy and what he wore. Yet with him, no property was damaged. I just used pride to tie in with his display of excitement, an opportunity to use the word "glee", its gay connotations, and the time frame. If this had happened any other weekend, I would not have mentioned pride, just glee.

I'm just going to go berserk with the old delete button if you post any more of this.

up

Am I a bad person for laughing at the way this guy pranced around after knocking this thing over?

up
Voting closed 0

Looked like he was doing a little victory dance.

That having been said, yes, a) good thing nobody was entering the station at the moment and b) good thing the cops caught the alleged asshole.

up
Voting closed 0

It might seem crazy what I'm about to say
I tipped it over and it fell this way
It it the floor, and I do my dance
With the air, like I don't care baby watch me prance!

up
Voting closed 0

I mean, the guy's a double minority (black and probably gay) and in addition to the shit he gets for each one, there are most likely people in one of those groups who give him shit for being a part of the other group.

That said, guy prancing around in general leaves me shrugging a shoulder. Guy prancing around after tipping over a vending machine, well that's a bit much for me to shrug off.

Of course, a lot of us are making assumptions based on his post-crime celebratory dance, and you know what they say about assumptions.

I dunno, Adam, let's not do anything rash. As long as they're coming from one account, you can do post-hoc cleanup of the offending comments with a simple WHERE clause in the ol' database. Otherwise, they'll just come in anonymously, and you'll have to go through thread-by-thread.

Plus, if Markk didn't exist, someone would have to invent him.

I get a nice simple queue where I can glance at the comments and the first line or two and then decide whether or not to approve it for posting or just lets it moulder for awhile before I batch delete them.

Deleting already posted comments via the database can get messy because they're referenced in several tables. Oops, I've said too much :-).

You've deleted some of my not-logged-in comments that start with a sarcastic couple of lines, but aren't actually disrespectful.

up

Just curious though: How is it up to you to decide what's disrespectful? Isn't that missing the point more or less completely?

It's his damn blog. He's the editor--he gets to edit. Geddit?

Try reading before jumping straight to snideville and you'll realize* that the question was _not_ addressed to Adam, nor did it question his right to decide what stays or goes here. It is his right. That's obvious, and wasn't my point.

Stay with me here: The "you" being addressed was the poster-- specifically, eekanotloggedin-- who is asked why _they_ (again, not Adam) get to decide what's respectful and what is not, which is absurd: If someone feels something is disrespectful, it is. The person who says it can't say it wasn't, even if they didn't mean it or realize it.

*or maybe you won't. Entirely possible.

You appear to have quite a chip on your shoulder.

And yes, really, I'm a gay man saying this. Obviously, he's over the top flamboyant after knocking over the machine, and is obviously behaving like a stereotypically effeminate homosexual man. And obviously, many gay males are not flamboyant and effeminate, myself among them. I laughed. How could anybody, don't care who they are, not laugh? As for the pride part, well yeah, it was in fact pride weekend, and there were in fact many pride attendees, many if not most gay or bi, on the orange line. 2+2=4 in my world.

I would not defend this guy for what he did, or certainly not his assault charges. Don't think he's a monster or anything, but he deserves ridicule.

up
Voting closed 0

Agree w wow just wow.
The guy destroys property and he beats up defenseless people - he also runs and dresses in a way that attracts lots of attention and would cause 99.9% of the population to think he is possibly gay or just silly exaggerated effeminate. But he is dangerous folks.
Why is everyone getting their panties in a twist about making fun if him. He is also an ass because everything in the T is filmed - oh wait he probably knew that and now has his 15 min of fame on Uhub that he can brag about to all his pals. He probably forgot about his outstanding warrants though.

The PC police around here seem to have their panties in a bunch about the fact that people are mentioning the fact that the man displayed effeminate mannerisms and some are making the not to far leap from there that he may be gay. However, this can be relevant. In the identifying of the perpetrator of a crime one would use terms like "he was an African American male". "He was about six feet tall". "He was wearing white pants". Is it inappropriate to say "he displayed effeminate seeming mannerisms"? Full disclosure, I am gay myself.

The video wasn't released to help police find a suspect; it was released after he was caught. So, yeah, people who aren't trapped in the 1970s have reason to take offense.

☑ Homophobic/misogynist slurs
☑ Slurs veiled enough that poster can claim indignation when called out said slurs
☑ When confronted, poster doubles down on original douchebaggery
☑ ...by resorting to the age old "No YOU'RE the xyz," which has apparently not failed him since grade school
☑ ...and aiming his cutting wit at the owner of the site
❑ Indignant claims that website and owner are part of leftist plot to silence his completely reasonable comments
❑ Non-sequitur about bicyclists being somehow to blame

You're so close to completing the list, Markk. Don't let us down now!

The HOMOPHOBIA, SEXISM, RACISM etc is in your own imagination. It is your fabrication. You are among the brainwashed knee-jerk PC police who twitch whenever a protected class isn't portrayed in a positive way. In this case, a likely gay man acting destructively. You need that looked at.

There are no slurs. The person appears to be male, black, gay, destructive. Facts, not slurs.

That would've smooshed anyone walking through the doorway on the right. A completely random destructive act could have resulted in a gruesome death.

So ... a lot of internet communities learn that the best way to deal with trolls, who *love* the negative attention we provide them, is to ignore them.

Don't feed the trolls.

If someone replies to a troll, remind them to not feed the trolls.

Eventually they find someplace else to be a shitty person.

Let's get down to brass tacks,

What's irrelevant here: color of the individual's skin, gender/gender-identity or sexual orientation,

What's relevant:

Individual intentionally flips over and damages a vending machine
Vending machine is not his personal property
The actions of this person could have injured someone (a patron entering/exiting the station, T employee, etc)
Perpetrator/Offender/Criminal.. yes, actions of the individual were criminal (vandalism and destruction of property)
Perp had to know there were surveillance cameras capturing everything
Perp didn't (obviously) care

I could care less about the perp's age/sexual orientation/skin color/gender identity/race/creed/ethnicity or anything else.

What matters is the perp committed a crime (vandalism and destruction of property). Maybe this person should be sentenced to work with/for the company that services and repairs the machines schlepping these machines to various locations, stocking them, etc....all in the hot and humid July/August weather and without earning anything,,,,,,except maybe how not to act like a sack of sh^t.

He seemed to take great pleasure in his accomplishment, indicating some sort of positive feedback, reward system at play in his brain that will predispose him for more shady behavior, as noted above. Did some sort of developmental process stop when he was quite young?
