Finally: Roslindale gets a Greek restaurant

Effie's Kitchen on Poplar Street, where Wapo Taco used to be, opened this weekend as the first Greek restaurant in Boston's most heavily Greek neighborhood.
With just three tables, Effie's is counting on take-out. It's starting out with a relatively small menu - and daily selection of baked Greek pastries. You walk in and hear Greek music, the people behind the counter speaking Greek and meat slowly turning on a spit.
If you want to try it (I got a chicken-souvlaki sandwich and it was good), bring cash - they don't accept credit cards yet.

They do have a "Greek hamburger," but no clue what it's made with. They had three types of drinks, one of them Nesquik chocolate milk, I was so amazed by that, I didn't see what the other two were.
The other two were
Ouzo and Retsina
and yes, I'm making a stupid attempt at a joke.

nesquik is also the standard chocolate milk at the Blue Star, maybe common supplier?

That's why we stopped going! Service is awful, we were there with my then toddler son and they would not give us our check! My poor little guy was getting antsy and they just kept on ignoring us until 20 minutes later we were finally able to get the servers attention so we could get out....nowadays we take a short car ride to the Westbury, good food, good service.
To each their own
They're fine for a walking breakfast from my house that my kids like. Sorry it wasn't up to your lofty standards. Eggs, fine, pancakes fine, etc... By all means, please go line up outside that diner in Dedham.

Personally I just tried Rox Diner for the first time last weekend and that was great, totally understand why there's a line now.
Nesquik? Not Nescafe?
Nescafe is a common Greek drink (make it into a frappe -- not the same as a frappe)... Nesquik not so much.

Well ...
It's owned by Greeks, as is Nick's Pizza, but it's not really a Greek restaurant, is it?
And, of course, I had to properly research this
So I'm typing this at a table in the Blue Star. They do have a couple of Greek items on the menu, but most of it is basic American breakfast/lunch stuff.
Just like Boston bars are by default "Irish" bars
All Rosi restaurants are by default "Greek" restaurants
It looks like they are starting as a souvlaki stand
That can be good or bad. Souvlaki or gyros in a pita can be pretty darn fantastic when done right. It looks too expensive to stop just for a snack though.

Looking forward to trying this place. I usually go to Farm Grill and their sister store the Greek International Market.

Oh, I'm sold. I miss bougatsa like CRAZY. I hope theirs is good -- I'm pretty picky about it.
Finally got a chance to visit Effie's Kitchen
My wife and I got the Effie's Combo -- pork gyros, chicken and beef souvlaki, bifteki (a teeny meatloaf) and loukaniko (pork sausage with some orange flavoring), accompanied by fries and pita. Also a Greek salad and some baklava. Every single thing we had was excellent, but I couldn't decide whether I liked the gyros or sausage better. Because we got there at the end of the evening, when things were slow, we also had a nice chat with Effie and family. BTW, they now do take credit cards. Very highly recommended.
