T releases corrected paint votes: People who care how subway cars look value consistency
The MBTA has released what it says are the actual votes by people who care about the paint schemes for new cars on the Red and Orange Lines, and this time, they say, people voted for the same basic scheme for both, just in different colors, for the cars, which could be in service in a few years.
In order to get a more accurate measurement of voters' opinions, the MBTA removed all responses seemingly generated by a computer program. Because each of these responses were recorded in less than ten seconds, the MBTA deemed the votes invalid and subsequently nullified the unreliable data. The MBTA regrets any confusion created by the previously announced results, and takes full responsibility for failing to properly monitor the survey responses. This will not happen again. The MBTA thanks the thousands of people who had a genuine interest in helping the MBTA select a new look for its new subway and trolley cars
Don't worry, the T also released the winner of the Green Line vote:

Boring!
What happened to the clearly superior versions with the kind of "fade out" of the colors?
Personally
Personally I felt the design you are asking about had a trendiness that would look really dated within a year or two. My favorite design was the one with the giant T/circle, but I am okay with the ultimate winner.
They lost
As much as I think those designs looked better, the ones chosen seem more functional.
In favor of continuity
These were the three I voted for, largely because they do indeed come closest to the traditional look of our existing fleet.
Same here. I wish the (T) was
Same here. I wish the (T) was in black-and-white on all three designs though.
The 1990s graphic designers
The 1990s graphic designers called and wanted them back.
Good
i'm glad they actually did something about these votes.
This was the closest to the current Blue Line design, so while it's not my favorite of the new options, the semi-consistency is nice.
Now that that's settled....
"Survey Invites Customers to Pick Their Favorite MBTA App" link on the main T website.
Ah, how I wish
Ah, how I wish howfuckedistheT.com was an app and not just a website.
(And still worked. Looks like it's dead now. For those who don't know, it used to just be a website that took the same scheduling/location data apps like MBTA Scout use, and depending on how behind the trains would be, would present it like "The T is.... not fucked at all," "sorta fucked," and "totally fucked.")
Adorable!
NOT Adorable
"This will not happen again" is a registered trademark of the BRA. IP theft is still theft.
First MBTA announcement I've seen
that didn't apologize for the inconvenience.
Please stand back
There is another redesign directly behind this one
"This will not happen again"
"This will not happen again" sounds like a slightly bolder platitude. Some PR hack probably told them to start using this mumbledy instead of apologizing.
Is this paint job
gonna make them work better?
No, but
Being 35 years newer will help.
It's so reassuring that our
It's so reassuring that our world-class transit agency can't even write a PHP script that checks IP addresses when people vote. People knew to write online polls like this in the 1990s.
Has anyone ever tried pen-testing the MBTA website or their data exports? It's probably horrifying.
Outsourcing
The T didn't run its own poll - it created one on SurveyMonkey.
