Charles River claims a lot of lives

Is it just me or does the Cambridge/Boston segment of the Charles River claim a lot of lives, especially for a river with few high bridges that I know of? The Mystic gets the jumpers from the Tobin Bridge and occasionally we hear of deaths in other "bodies" of water but it seems like this is almost a monthly story on UHub and far more deaths than the Harbor. I know there are college students, homeless etc. but I would expect they're everywhere. Seems odd.

The age group most likely to die in these incidents is college-age.
Boston and Cambridge each have several miles of waterfront winding through areas packed with those college age people. Both these cities have high population density as well.
I've looked at CDC statistics for drownings of this sort. If you consider where people of the highest age risk reside relative to bodies of water, it is actually surprising that we don't have MORE of these incidents. I believe that national rates would predict nearly double the number we typically see (if you include the harbor incidents as well).
There are other ways too

They don't seem to make the news in as (pardon the wording) splashy of a way, but every once in a while some frat boy falls off a balcony or has a few (dozen) too many or has an accident hiking up in New Hampshire with his buddies and the result is the same.
Probably before you were born ...

But this song totally describes more current and similar incidents as well as the initial incident in the early 1980s ... late night at a dorm and somebody topples out a window and nobody knows why or how:

Not college age men. Occasionally we hear about a college age 'falling' into the river or harbor, and no doubt alcohol is involved, but I think many are suicides. The older men are probably mostly homeless.

More homeless congregate or are deported to Boston-Cambridge. They encamp by the Charles and bad stuff happens.
