Citizen complaint of the day: Charlestown needs a shoe-shine guy, stat

Damaged shoe soles in Charlestown

An aggrieved citizen complains a repaving project on Bartlett Street has left residents in an untenable position: Just stay inside until it's done or risk getting gunk all over their shoes:

Can the city send a shoe shine/cleaning man to fix everyone's shoes damaged by the repaving project?

If your biggest complaint in life is fresh tar on the bottom of your cheap shoes, I'm sure there are multiple families who just lost everything they owned in that fire last week, that will gladly trade places with you...

Asking for free shoe cleaning from public services because of roadwork isn't really a reasonable response.

Your solution would be for residents to simply levitate over the crap?

I wouldn't call Cole Haan shoes cheap... they're not your "PayLess" variety.

Walk around in sneakers or flip flops so your nice shoes don't get damaged.

Same. Happened last winter on the B-line. Turned to get on train and went right down because of a hole on the platform. The driver (who had offered to call an ambulance) helped me hobble on and got me a seat where I sort of cried quietly and pathetically until I got to my stop and hopped home. First time I ever twisted my ankle! Thanks, City of Boston. To their credit, they filled it in.

The city should just dispatch a shoe shine/cleaning man to this man's house to wash his feet pope style.

It must be awful to have to contend with this when one's valet is away on holiday.

encounter a dodgy surface on the street ahead, simply take off your shoes and socks and let your bare feet endure the brunt of it. Heaven forfend you get something on the soles of your shoes, after all.

"Dear Cole Haan: I am returning my Cole Haan Grandios model shoes. I had no idea they would make the rest of me grandiose."

Why wasn't he walking on the concrete sidewalk?

Because he has to cross the street and there's no Pedestrian Flyway(tm)?

...clean the BOTTOM of shoes?

Gunk on the bottoms of shoes are going to happen. There's no avoiding it, and that's why people wear shoes instead of walking around barefoot. If that's the basis of the complaint, then this guy needs to put on his big-boy panties and deal with it.

But what's jumping out at me are the two huge slices, one across each heel. Are those supposed to be there, or is that the damage that this guy is complaining about?

Nobody in my household wears men's dress shoes so I don't know if that's a design feature or something that happened when he walked hrough the construction. If those slices are damages from walking through/around the construction area, he does have a case, since re-heeling shoes isn't as easy or cheap as it used to be years ago, when you could find a cobbler on every block.

but those large "slices" across the heels are indeed a feature of certain brands of men's dress shoes.

It's more concerning that he has his shoes in the wrong feet
