Tumult at the Reggie Lewis Center
By adamg on Mon, 09/19/2016 - 8:46am
Adrian Walker last week reported center backers are outraged at how Roxbury Community College ousted the long-time director - and how a college group won't turn over money a track group raised at an event there.
Today, the Boston Business Journal reports that Marathon Sports is backing legislation to split Reggie Lewis off from RCC.

But the college has reverted
"...to operating like a third-world fiefdom, in which decisions cannot be questioned and explanations are unnecessary."
Wait, that's the attitude of unfireable college types? You don't say.
How is this any different
How is this any different than the AG, Senate President, Speaker of the House, or even the Governor?
r u serious?
They can be voted out and/or far more easily confronted than university officials, union officials, nameless technocrats, who many times have very low profiles.
What do you know about colleges?
Please share the source of your wisdom.
Toilet paper does not count.
That they're overrun with liberals
You know, the "because I said so" types who talk out of one side of their mouth about tolerance, then out of the other side of their mouth, put a guy out of work after 18 years simply because they don't have tea and crumpets together.
The behavior of the university officials as described in this column should be abhorrent to any working person.
Name your sources
Please cite your sources.
If anything, they are overrun by predatory neocons trying to turn a profit for themselves while destroying longstanding scholarly programs that they don't happen to like.
But please, Mr. High School Graduate from another state - do carry on in your "Howie Carr Said It And I Believe It" way. You don't know shinola from excrement here.
I got my first politicial Facebook unfriending of the season
Last week for daring to oppose Hillary Clinton. Occupation of the Shillbot? College English professor. Shocking, right? There's my source.
Must be the "Good Liberals" destroying labor rights departments
Yep. UMass Amherst has been trying to eliminate a "unprofitable" scholarly department and UMass Lowell has been trying to destroy a well-grant funded graduate worker health department.
All Liberals. Must be. Yep.
Pathetic
Anecdotes are not data.
I had an MIT professor that feared ATMs
Therefore, that proves that MIT was overrun with technology-phobic professors and that all MIT administrators must be technophobic.
Fail logic much, Will?
Classic
You can ascribe the exact behavior you are detailing to conservatives as well of course. Don't sign a pledge, get primaried out of office. Try to make government work, lose your appointments. Etc... It's not about ideology but rather about the abuse of power by those in power. Happens in socialist dictatorships, liberal democracies, etc... You just don't like 'liberals' so you think this is their unique thing.

Yeah
But at least the conservatives don't pretend that they care about me.
And before anybody says "Donald Trump," let me point out that he is no conservative.
No True Scotsman Fallacy
No True Scotsman Fallacy
Hmm
I sure remember how much they pretended to care about Terry Schiavo while using all the tools of government power to fight her family to score political points.
That was a lowlight
What a piece of garbage Jeb Bush is.
Bobby flowers
tolerance is in the eye of the beholder. Look no further than the news of the last few days and the call to kill all Muslims by tolerant conservatives.
Bobby Flowers?
Wouldn't I be Billy Flowers?
You truly are a hot mess
Did your parents have any kids that lived?
Reggie Lewis Center
Leadership at RCC is attempting to wrestle control of The Reggie despite the Legislation that funded the facility stating otherwise. They fired the Director that looked after the State's high school track athletes. They are also hollding over 100k hostage that was raised by the High School Track Association. May not seem like a big deal, but it is a true power play that could leave a few thousand public high school kids without an indoor track home. This facility was approved by the state years ago. It took decades to get built and funded. RCC is out of line with this.
