Hardly a Bostonism. We used this in the 70s in the suburbs of Detroit, and I don;t doubt it was more widespread than that.

Yeah, we had this one over in the DC suburbs in the '70s growing up, as in "He came bookin' around third base so fast there was no way he was gonna get thrown out," or, "Man, that guy is the fastest guy in our P.E. class -- he can really book." I think maybe it's a variation on "boogie" (i.e. to move really fast), which got shortened down to "boog" and then got turned in to "book."

"Book" is often used by young adults in the midwest to imply getting out of somewhere quickly. Frankly, I think we all picked it up from "NYPD Blue."

Naw, we used it in San Francisco a couple of centuries ago... When I was growing up.

I use this all the time, generally as others have said. "Book it."And I never watched NYPD. I'm too young. (Still in highschool.)

We used book & booked all the time growing up in Chicago. At age 13, I related a story to my Southie & Dorchester cousins and used the term "booked" and they had NO idea what I meant.
