Not something you see every day: Green Line trolley causes Pike delay

Green Line trolley on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Newton

Why should T riders have all the fun? Roving UHub photographer Sean Owen reports car traffic being slowed to a crawl out by 128 this morning thanks to a slow-moving Green Line trolley (no doubt on its way to upstate New York to be refurbished).

Green Line trolleys usually cause delays for riders only

There's one dude with eyes closed and headphones on who missed the "This train is going express - next stop, Pittsfield" announcements. I mean, I've zoned out and missed one stop a couple of times, so I can sympathize.

The location in the photo is the ramp from I-95 north to I-90, which normally backs up on a good day - even without an oversized load. It is not the Turnpike mainline.

It was the Huntington Turnpike.

Pretty sure they haven't but any, right?

Thing was pristine. Didn't even feel the urge to wash my hands when I got to work.
(But I did anyway!)

However, I've noticed one possible flaw. Every time I've been on a train where a rebuilt Type 7 is coupled with a Type 8, the robo-voice station announcements don't work properly. Normally, the announcement starts OK and is then interrupted with a burst of static before it cuts out.

I've noted that this issue doesn't occur when a non-rebuilt Type 7 is coupled with a Type 8, or when two Type 8s are coupled together (yes, that often happens).

Not the point you're trying to make but the robo voices everywhere are screwed up and have been since the system was installed. It's embarrassing for the state. Often when it's a three syllable word it will not say the last the last one. So instead of "Remember" it will pronounce "Remem". South Weymouth becomes "South Wayne".

How many years and they haven't fix this yet?
