Man arrested on gun and drug charges by officers investigating Roxbury gunfire

Boston Police report officers investigating gunfire in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Winthrop Street around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday spotted a guy "walking quickly while looking back over his shoulder towards Dudley Street and clutching the front waistband area of his pants."

As the officers continued to monitor the suspect, they observed him discard an unidentified object underneath a parked car before taking off running down Blue Hill Avenue. Officers stopped the suspect a short distance later and placed him in custody after returning to the parked motor vehicle where they safely recovered a loaded 9mm Springfield Armory XD-9 handgun with a defaced serial number. Officers then performed a pat frisk of the suspect at which time they recovered four small plastic bags of crack cocaine from inside his pants pocket. It was not determined at the time of his arrest if the suspect had any involvement in the possible shots fired call.

Travaun Daley, 26, of Dorchester, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm (second and subsequent offense), unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of a large-capacity feeding device and possession of class B drugs with intent to distribute, police say.

Innocent, etc.
